The American White Pelican (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos) is one of North America’s largest birds, easily recognized by its massive orange bill and brilliant white plumage. Breeding primarily on inland lakes and prairies of Canada, these pelicans migrate south in autumn and occasionally stop over in places like Delta, British Columbia. Seeing a group of a dozen or more perched together on driftwood is a rare and striking sight.
