Animals in Vancouver (Valley Garter Snake)-Vol.07温哥华动物 (山谷锦蛇)

The Valley Garter Snake (Thamnophis sirtalis fitchi) is one of the most common non-venomous snakes in British Columbia, frequently found around wetlands, lakeshores, and grassy areas—including Burnaby Lake in Metro Vancouver. Slender in shape with dark coloration and yellow or reddish stripes along its body, it is harmless and generally shy. Feeding on frogs, fish, and earthworms, it can often be seen basking in the autumn sun before hibernation. As both a predator and an ecological indicator species, it plays an important role in maintaining the balance of local wetland ecosystems.
