The winding lagoons, mangrove forests, and shallow wetlands of Río Lagartos provide ideal habitat for a remarkable variety of herons and waterbirds. Great Blue Herons, egrets, night-herons, Roseate Spoonbills, and many other species thrive here throughout the year, while the distinctive Boat-billed Heron remains one of the reserve’s most sought-after birds.
